PURSUE JUSTICE AND HEALING
LEGAL SUPPORT
Protect your rights.
Volare offers legal support to survivors of crime—even if you choose not to press charges. We aid survivors in navigating the legal system, upholding your rights throughout criminal proceedings, and fighting for systematic change at a state and federal level.
GET DIRECT REPRESENTATION
At Volare, an attorney can represent your best interest before, during, and after a trial. Our DC-barred attorneys represent survivors of crime in three key areas: crime victims’ rights, civil protection order cases, and Title IX proceedings.
APPEAL YOUR CASE*
Volare’s National Appellate Program (formerly known as DV LEAP) is a national leader in survivor appellate advocacy. Our network of attorneys challenge unjust trial outcomes by litigating appeals, filing Amicus briefs, and fighting for survivor rights all the way to the Supreme Court. Apply for assistance here.
*Available outside DC.
Get legal advice
Our attorneys are available to help you navigate the complex legal system. An attorney can help answer questions, file protection orders, prepare you for the witness stand, and weigh pros and cons of every decision made.
Get a referral
Our goal is to help as many survivors as we can, in whatever way we can—even when it extends beyond our typical services. For immigration, defamation, debt collection, housing, and other cases, we offer referrals through VLNDC, a project of our legal program.
advocacy SUPPORT
Protect your time, energy, and wellbeing.
Think of your personal health advocate as your personal guide to navigating the recovery process, aiding in:
✓ Secure emergency housing
✓ Find donated furniture
✓ Help replace a lost or stolen ID
✓ Get funding for diapers or other necessities
✓ Find shelters or fosters for pets
✓ Write letters to employers, professors, or landlords to explain absences
✓ Articulate options as needs evolve over time
✓ Arrange safe transportation to the hospital, follow-up appointments, or legal proceedings
For sexual assault and rape survivors
Your sexual assault advocates are there to help navigate your healing journey, accompanying you at medical forensic exams, the scene of the crime, while reporting to the police, or at your home. They are not only there for you in a crisis, but can also provide long-term support with whatever path you choose to take.
For all survivors of crime
Your advocate’s goal is to support you in reaching your goals, and that can look differently for everyone. Advocates can arrange transportation, secure emergency housing, or introduce you to mental health or legal support. Whatever you need, they’ll work with you to find a way.
THERAPEUTIC SUPPORT
Protect your mental health.
Our culturally-responsive therapeutic services pair you with professionals sharing similar lived experiences as your own. We aim to remove barriers to mental health support, facilitating one-on-one, short-term therapy, support groups, and referrals for long-term care.
Get one-on-one support
Survivors deserve a safe, dignified space to process a traumatic event. Survivors can receive 25 short-term or EMDR therapy sessions to access internal tools, increase self compassion, and navigate the healing process.
Get group support
Volare runs open and closed support groups for survivors throughout the year. Here, you can discover new coping strategies, heal through connection, find a community of support, and continue to process your experience.
We adapt to every unique survivor experience—but some things never change.
YOUR DECISION IS OUR DUE DILIGENCE
Volare is committed to survivor-defined justice. We provide information and tools—how you use them is your choice to make.
WE MAINTAIN A VERTICAL ADVOCACY MODEL
Attorneys, therapists, and advocates work in tandem throughout your journey. We strive to pair you with the same team throughout the recovery process.
WHAT YOU SAY, STAYS HERE
Your privacy and confidential information is protected by both our advocacy and attorney-client privilege.
WE FOLLOW-THROUGH
The breadth and depth of our services is unmatched, and we will continue to follow-up until a client no longer needs us.
Your choice is our commitment.
You are the expert in your own life. And therefore no one is better qualified than you to determine how you heal.
